Golden Point: Padel's Sudden-Death Deuce Explained

Golden point is a scoring rule in padel: when a game reaches 40–40 (deuce), one single point decides the game instead of playing advantages. The receiving team chooses which player receives the serve.

Why golden point exists

It keeps matches moving and court bookings on time, and it adds pressure. Many social and club matches in the UK use it; check the rules before you start, because some leagues and tournaments use advantage scoring or their own variations.

How to play golden point well

  • Receiving pair: put your stronger returner on the side the server least likes.
  • Serving pair: serve to the body or the glass, then take the net.
  • Keep it simple. Golden points are lost on errors far more than won on winners.

Wear the word: the Golden Point Tee.
