Contrapared: Hitting Into Your Own Wall in Padel

Contrapared (“against the wall”) is a padel shot where you hit the ball into your own back or side wall so it rebounds over the net into the opponents' court. It is legal in padel and is usually a last resort when the ball has got past you.

When to use a contrapared

When the ball is behind you and you can't turn to play it normally. Played well, it turns into a lob; played badly, it sets up an easy smash.

How to hit a contrapared

  1. Face your own wall and hit upwards and firmly into it.
  2. Aim to make the rebound travel high and deep, like a globo.
  3. Recover your position immediately.

Note: the ball must not bounce on your side again after hitting your wall, and it must clear the net without touching the opponents' walls first.
