What to Wear for Padel in a UK Winter

British padel has a layering problem more than a clothing problem.

You can play in a T-shirt and shorts for much of the year. The difficult bit is everything around the booking: arriving cold, waiting for the previous match to finish, warming up, standing between games and walking back out into wind or rain.

The answer is not one giant winter coat. It is choosing the right layer for the condition.

What should I wear for padel in winter?

Start with your normal court kit — a breathable tee with shorts, leggings or a skort — then add a layer you can remove once you start moving.

If it is simply cold, a Quarter Zip or Padel Hoodie works well before and after play. If wind or rain is the problem, use a lighter outer layer such as the AP Shell.

Shell, gilet, quarter zip or hoodie?

Shell: wind and rain. The AP Shell uses a waterproof 4000mm outer, heat-sealed seams and a breathable membrane without the bulk of a padded coat.

Gilet: extra core warmth without full sleeves. The AP Club Gilet combines a water-repellent ripstop outer with stretch side and back panels.

Quarter Zip: a midweight layer for cold starts, warm-up and the drive home. The AP Club Quarter Zip uses a 280gsm organic cotton and recycled polyester blend.

Hoodie: heavyweight comfort for the hours around the game. AP Club's core graphic hoodies use 350gsm brushed organic cotton with relaxed fits.

Warm up layered, then strip back

You need more clothing standing still than you do once the rally starts. Arrive layered, keep the warmth through your first few minutes, then remove what you do not need as your body temperature rises.

A heavyweight hoodie that feels perfect in the car park can become annoying once you are serving, reaching overhead and moving laterally. The useful system is adjustable rather than heroic.

What should I wear if it is raining?

First check whether the court is actually playable and whether the venue has closed it. Clothing cannot make a wet surface safe.

If the session is going ahead, a light waterproof shell is useful for arrival, waiting and the walk away from court. It also cuts wind without forcing you into a bulky winter jacket.

What about indoor courts?

Indoor does not always mean warm. Many UK padel venues are large industrial or semi-covered spaces, so one removable layer still earns its place — especially if you are waiting between matches.

Shorts, leggings or a skort?

Wear whichever lets you move freely. In colder conditions, full-length Padel Leggings can make the start and finish of a session more comfortable; once you are moving, Padel Shorts still work perfectly well for many players.
